At the reading I mentioned above, which took place at Double Happiness (in my series, of course), you presented your poems with musical -- eh hem -- backing from Dirk Rowntree of a decidedly dada nature. Some people commented that they couldn't hear what you were saying, yet you told me afterwards that you didn't necessarily want all of your words to be heard. What did you mean by this? What were your intentions with the reading? I have a sense that more poets these days, myself included, are trying to make their readings a little more than presentations of literature, but something like an experience, a happening, or an experiment. Do you identify with this idea? What are your goals for future readings? |
